Two Gyumri residents detained while trying to pay with counterfeit banknote: one was posing as a woman
YEREVAN, December 20. /ARKA/. In Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia, police officers detained two local residents who tried to pay for a taxi with counterfeit banknotes.
According to the police, a 20-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy were caught red-handed on December 17 when they tried to pay for a purchase at a kiosk with a counterfeit 5,000 dram banknote.
At the time of the arrest, the young man was wearing a woman's dress and a wig; an investigation is underway.
Earlier, on November 9, a local taxi driver reported to the police that a boy and a girl tried to pay with a counterfeit banknote. The driver realized that the money was not real and demanded that he pay with real money. After that, the scammers, throwing down their bag, fled. Counterfeit banknotes of 10,000 and 2,000 drams ($1 - 394.91 drams) were found in the bag.
