Abnormally warm January expected in Armenia
"
YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. The average temperature across Armenia in January is expected to be above the norm, Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center Gagik Surenyan said.
"The average temperature in January 2024 will exceed the norm by 3-5 degrees Celsius. The amount of precipitation is expected to be within the norm," Surenyan said at a press conference on Friday.
According to him, tropical warm air masses are expected to penetrate into Armenia in the first days of January, and in some days of January in Shirak, Kotayk foothills, Aragatsotn, Vayotsdzor and Gegharkunik marzes (provinces) the air temperature will rise to 5-9 degrees Celsius above zero.
In Lori, Tavush, as well as in the valley of Syunik marz the temperature may rise to 16-20 degrees Celsius. In Ararat region and Yerevan, the temperature may reach 14-20 degrees above zero.
According to the center's forecasts, the warm weather will not have a negative impact on the future harvest. Despite the fact that there is no snow, frost is not expected.
According to Surenyan, such weather anomaly has been observed in Armenia for the last 6 years. The reason is global climate change. --0-
