Academic Campus in Armenia to start with construction of arts cluster
YEREVAN, May 24. /ARKA/. Construction of the Academic Campus in Armenia will kick off with an arts cluster, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan said on Wednesday. She said a team of German architects who visited Armenia and the site of the future campus made a proposal regarding the timing of the master plan based on their preliminary research.
Speaking at a government Q&A session in parliament the minister noted that the construction will be in phases.
"At the moment we are discussing the proposal. The Academic Campus Foundation has been established for implementing the project. A Board of Trustees will be formed in the next few days to manage the foundation," she said.
According to the ministry, the Academic Campus is supposed to ensure network synergy between educational institutions by introducing modern virtual, social and physical infrastructures.
It will consist of three clusters- the arts cluster, which will be located on the territory of former Armenfilm studio, technological cluster - it will be located on the territory of Yerevan Institute of Physics and the third cluster, the largest one is to include educational, military and possibly international universities.
In addition to sheltering all state-run universities, the campus will also have residential areas, research centers, sports infrastructure, a park, and an amphitheater. The Academic Campus is likely to accommodate also a national stadium.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the construction site has already been determined - the Academic Campus will be located in the intersection of Yerevan, Kotayk, Armavir and Aragatsotn provinces near Proshyan and Kasakh villages. -0-
