Acting chairman of Armenian Supreme Judicial Council resigns
YEREVAN, June 7. /ARKA/. Acting Chairman of the Armenian Supreme Judicial Council Gevorg Danielyan has resigned. According to a post on his Facebook page, he will quit office on June 10. He took office on May 24, when Gagik Harutyunyan, the then chairman, resigned.

Gevorg Danielyan expressed hope that the renewed Supreme Judicial Council with member enjoying public confidence will be able to implement judicial reforms.

He said he had been working under the direction of Harutyunyan throughout about one year in “almost unacceptable labor conditions” and “amid false publications in the press”. In his words, they have worked out a concept aimed at enhancing the effectives of the country’s justice system.

Danielyan’s resignation, just like the resignation of his former boss, Harutyunyan, came amid widespread disaffection for the country’s judges and courts, which has forced Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan “to resort to surgical intervention”, as he said on May 20, to rid the justice system from corrupted judges. This means that all judges in Armenia will undergo the vetting.

Pashinyan also said that introduction of transitional justice mechanisms in the country is the matter of vital importance. -0---
