YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. Under a set of amendments to the Armenian Code of Administrative Offenses, initiated by the Ministry of Interior, pedestrians who violate the rules for crossing the roadway — that is, those who cross the street in an unauthorized place — will be subject to stricter liability.

"Previously, such a violation incurred administrative liability of 5,000 drams. However, since August 2, the fine has increased to 10,000 drams," stated Arman Chilingaryan, Deputy Head of the Patrol Service.

These legislative changes are prompted by alarming statistics. In 2023 alone, some 1,197 collisions were recorded, resulting in 108 deaths. Despite a slight decrease in cases in 2024, the number of victims remained virtually unchanged: 1,079 collisions and 107 fatalities.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs added that most accidents occur due to pedestrians violating traffic rules. (1 USD = 383.5 drams)-0-
