Armenia doubles the penalty for driving without a license

YEREVAN, August 12 — /ARKA/. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that Armenia has tightened the penalty for driving without a license, and repeated violations will result in criminal liability.
According to the amendments made to the Code of Administrative Offenses, as of August 2, individuals operating a vehicle without a driver's license will face more severe administrative penalties.
The previously established fine of 25,000 AMD has now increased to 50,000 AMD. Moreover, repeated violations will result in criminal liability," the ministry says.
According to another amendment to the Criminal Code, if a person who has already been held administratively responsible for driving without a license drives a vehicle without a license again within one year, he or she will be subject to criminal liability — this act is criminalized.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that the criminalization of this act is not an end in itself. It aims to reduce the number of cases of driving without a license.
These changes, initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aim exclusively to strengthen public safety and promote a culture of safe driving.
It should also be noted that some road accidents occur due to drivers' inexperience or ignorance of traffic rules.
'Driving a car without a license increases these risks and poses a serious threat to road safety. To improve road safety and reduce incidents, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has proposed legislation. This initiative is based on proposals from our citizens," the report says.-0-
