Armenia ratifies Convention on Elimination of Violence and Harassment in Workplace

YEREVAN, September 11. /ARКА/. During its session on Thursday, the National Assembly of Armenia ratified the 2019 Convention on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment.
As stated by Ruben Sargsyan, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, the Convention aims to prevent violence and harassment against workers and other individuals, applying to both the private and public sectors.
"Violence and harassment in the workplace have detrimental effects on an individual's psychological and physical health, dignity, as well as on their family and social environment," Sargsyan remarked, further explaining that the Convention provides a definition for the terms "violence and harassment" within the context of work.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the ratification of this Convention will enhance Armenia's commitment to ensuring safe and healthy working environments for all employees.
According to Sargsyan, in terms of reinforcing legislation and policy, the ratification aligns with the пovernment's program of activities, employment strategy, and the action plan for implementing gender policy.
The Convention was adopted in 2019 and came into effect in 2021. It has already been ratified by 50 countries, while it has yet to come into force in 6 countries.-0—
