Armenia's birth rate decreases by 4.9% and death rate by 0.6% in 11 months
YEREVAN, January 13. /АРКА/. During the period from January to November 2025, Armenia experienced a 4.9% decrease in the birth rate compared to the same timeframe in 2024, while the death rate also saw a reduction of 0.6%.
This information is supported by data released by the Statistical Committee (Armstat).
Nativity:
The reduction in the birth rate has been recorded in Armenia since January 2024. It is reported that 29,337 children were born between January and November 2025, in contrast to 30,861 births during the same 11 months in 2024.
Additionally, there were 360 stillbirths reported in this timeframe, which is a 13% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Consequently, the vitality index, which measures the ratio of births to deaths, stood at 127% for January to October of this year, down from 132.7% for the same period last year.
Mortality:
In the 11 months of the previous year, 23,109 individuals passed away. A significant portion of these deaths (51.3% or 11,852 individuals) were attributed to circulatory system diseases, marking a 4.1% decrease from the same period in 2024.
The second leading cause of death was neoplasms, accounting for 20.2% or 4,661 individuals, which reflects a 2.9% decline. Other causes of death included respiratory diseases (9.9% or 2,286 individuals, an increase of 5.5%), digestive diseases (4.8% or 1,106 individuals, a decrease of 8.3%), external causes (3.8% or 887 individuals, a decrease of 6%), endocrine system diseases (2.1% or 490 individuals, an increase of 24.4%), and infectious diseases (1.4% or 322 individuals, an increase of 39.4%). -0-
