Armenia's birth rate drops 7.1% in 10 months
YEREVAN, December 6. /ARKA/. In Armenia, the birth rate decreased by 7.1% in January-October 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to data published by the National Statistical Committee of Armenia. The decline in the birth rate has been observed since January of this year.
It is noted that 28,164 babies were born during the reporting period, compared to 30,326 newborns in the first ten months of 2023.
Moreover, 378 stillbirths were recorded during the specified period, which is an 11.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Overall, 21,228 people died in the country from January to October 2024, a 5.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Thus, the vitality index – the ratio of births to deaths – was 132.7% in January-October of this year, compared to 150.4% in the same period last year.
