Armenia's Health Minister Announces Services to Be Included in Basic Insurance Package
YEREVAN, October 22. /ARКА/. A single basic package is designated for all beneficiaries of the mandatory health insurance system in Armenia, including individuals aged over 65, as stated by Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan.
"Primarily, the insurance will encompass the most sought-after services, such as outpatient services, clinic visits, family doctor consultations, specialist consultations, and laboratory tests (a specified number per year)," Avanesyan remarked during a government Q&A session in parliament.
She further noted that the list of services will be broadened and refined to incorporate specific surgical procedures, particularly ophthalmological (cataracts), cardiovascular, and others. She emphasized that beneficiaries of the system will receive care from medical institutions that adhere to established standards.
"It is not yet determined when the mandatory health insurance system will be implemented. This information will be disclosed following the passage of the relevant law by parliament," Avanesyan indicated.
Previously, Anahit Avanesyan announced that in 2026, during the initial phase of the transition to a universal health insurance system (2026-2028), 1.6 million residents of Armenia will be included.
This encompasses individuals under 18 and over 65, as well as persons with disabilities and those receiving social benefits. For these groups, the state will cover 100% of the expenses.
Additionally, this system will extend coverage to 190,000 employed citizens earning a monthly income exceeding 200,000 drams. The annual cost of the health insurance package will be 129,600 drams, payable on a monthly basis.-0-
