Armenia suffered AMD 8.8bn environmental damage in 2024 - regulator
YEREVAN, 9 January. /ARKA/. In 2024, some AMD 8.8 billion worth damage caused to the environment and the state was recorded, the head of Nature and Subsoil Protection Inspection Body Hovhannes Martirosyan said.
‘Compared to the previous year, this indicator increased by about AMD 3 billion (AMD 5.1 billion in 2023),’ Martirosyan noted at a press conference on Thursday.
He said the damage in the area of water resources amounted to 1.3 billion drams, 1.6 billion drams worth damages was caused to subsoil (the illegal export of minerals amounted to about 4.5 million cubic metres), the damage caused to flora and fauna was 1.1 billion drams, land the air pollution damage was 2.3 billion drams.
‘Criminal proceedings are underway for all these violations,’ Martirosyan said.
He also said that in 2024, 242 million drams had flowed into the state budget in the form of fines, compared to 143 million drachmas in 2023. -0--
