YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a bill to amend the Law on Trade and Services. The bill calls for banning the use of disposable plastic bags.
The amended law will come into force on January 1, 2022 and will ban the use of disposable plastic bags up to 50 microns thick in retails and food shops. The only exception will be use of bags for weighing and packaging goods, as well as those made from recycled materials.
Time before the deadline should be used by manufacturers to shift to production of biodegradable packages.
Environment Minister Erik Grigoryan said the bill had been amended before the second reading. "The government put forward an additional proposal that these regulations also apply to mobile points of sale," said Grigoryan. -0-
