YEREVAN, August 18. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Health said today it has purchased a new batch of vaccines against Covid-19.

Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said a total of 200 thousand doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines were bought which is enough for 100 thousand people to get both doses.

She said in a Facebook post that the vaccine is available to all citizens over 18 years without restrictions.

As of August 16, some 220,236 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered in Armenia since the beginning of the vaccination on April 13. Some 144,573 people have received the first dose, and 75,663 have people received both.

Three types of Covid-19 vaccines were used in Armenia- AstraZeneka, Sputnik V and CoronaVac. They are free and available for people over 18 on a voluntary basis, including foreigners.

According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the total tally of deaths from Covid-19 as of August 17 stood at 4,713.

On July 9, the government of Armenia extended the coronavirus quarantine for another six months until December 20, 2021.

The nationwide quarantine was first imposed on September 11, 2020 replacing the state of emergency that was declared on March 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus. -0-
