YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Minister of Nature Protection Erik Grigoryan participated in the 6th Ministerial Session of the Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in Vietnam.
The Assembly is the highest governing body of the GEF, which invites representatives from 183 participating countries every four years to summarize achievements and launch a new work cycle.
During the gathering Armenia was awarded a $7,450,000 grant that will be spent on implementing climate change-related projects, biodiversity conservation and combating land degradation, the Armenian ministry said.
In a speech at the event Armenian minister said Armenia highly appreciates this opportunity to share views with donors, member states, civil society, the private sector and other interested parties.
"Environmental problems are interlinked with the quality of human life, the economic and social situation. Poverty is one of the most important environmental problems, and poverty reduction can have a significant impact on solutions to environmental problems," he said.
Grigoryan called on the international community to take measures to strengthen the capacity of institutions that make environmental and economic decisions. -0-
