YEREVAN, August 3. /ARKA/. Another batch of Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccines – 50,400 doses - has arrived in Armenia, the press service of the Ministry of Health reported.

It said the vaccines were purchased through the World Health Organization’s COVAX FACILITY. The vaccines will be used to vaccinate citizens aged 18 and over.

According to the latest data of the Ministry of Health, as of August 1, some 171,890 doses of the vaccines were administered in Armenia since the start of the coronavirus vaccination on April 13.: some 120,285 people received one dose of the vaccine, and 51,605 both doses.

Three Covid-19 vaccines are available in Armenia: AstraZeneca (Britain), Sputnik-V (Russia), and CoronaVac / Sinovac (China). Citizens 18 years and older can get the jab at any polyclinics, regardless of their residence. Vaccination is voluntary and free, including for foreign citizens.

Armenian health officials have recorded so far 230,713 confirmed cases of Covid-19. According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the total tally of such deaths is now 4,621.

In total, 1,357,957 coronavirus tests have been performed in the country of 3 million since March 1, 2020, when the first case was detected. Since then 220,289 patients have recovered, and 4,681 patients are being treated currently at hospitals and their homes.

On July 9, the government of Armenia extended the coronavirus quarantine for another six months until December 20, 2021.

The nationwide quarantine was first imposed on September 11, 2020 replacing the state of emergency that was declared on March 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus. -0-
