Armenia's birth rate slashed by 7.3% in the first 4 months of 2022 compared to the same period of time in 2021, according to the numbers, released today by the National Statistical Committee (NSC).

YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. Armenia's birth rate slashed by 7.3% in the first 4 months of 2022 compared to the same period of time in 2021, according to the numbers, released today by the National Statistical Committee (NSC).

The NSC said that 10,665 babies were born during the reporting period, down from 11,501 born in the first four months of 2021. However, when compared to the same time span of 2020, the birth rate in the first 4 months of 2022 was up 4.8%.

Some 130 cases of stillbirths were registered in January- April 2022, some 20.7% less than in the same period of 2021 and 0.8% more than in the same period of 2020.

Also, according to NSC, some 10,700 people died in January-April 2022, 7.3% less than in the same period of time in 2021 and 12.2% more than in the first four months of 2020.

More than half of the deaths (55.6% or 5,944 people) were caused by circulatory system diseases, an increase of 2.1% compared to the same period of time in 2021. The second moat widespread cause of death was neoplasms (16% or 1,715 people, a decrease of 3.1%).

Other causes of death were respiratory diseases (9.6% or 1,026 people, up 17%), COVID-19 (6.3% or 674 people, down 59.5%) and digestive diseases (4.2% or 446 people, down 2%). -0-
