Armenia’s Health Ministry issues measles warning
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. The epidemiological situation regarding measles in Armenia may worsen, the country’s Ministry of Health stated in a warning issued on Wednesday.
According to a statement, measles cases continue to be reported both in Armenia and other countries. The current increase in tourist activity is seen as a contributing factor to the potential escalation of the outbreak.
UNICEF Armenia reported last week that 543 confirmed cases of measles were recorded in the country, with 323 of these cases occurring among children. Additionally, one death due to measles was registered in Armenia in 2023.
Recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that in the first quarter of 2024, a total of 56,634 measles cases and four deaths were officially recorded in 45 out of the 53 countries in the WHO European Region.
