YEREVAN, January 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Assembly has approved today in the first reading a set of amendments to the Criminal Code and the Law on Administrative Offenses, which call for higher fines for evading military exercises and training camps.
The amendments increase the current fine of 20 thousand drams (about $41) to 30 thousand drams (about $62), according to Deputy Defense Minister Gabriel Balayan. He said a repeat of the offense would entail a fine of 50 thousand drams (about $ 104).
The amendments determine also valid reasons for not attending exercises and training camps and specifies the body that imposes the fine.
Balayan said since the body that imposes the fine is not specified in the current law, in fact, the fine of 20 thousand drams was not applied. He said this is why there is no statistics on the number of males who avoided such exercises and training camps. -0-
