YEREVAN, August 5. /ARKA/. Armenia’s permanent population as of July 1, 2022 stood at 2,961,900 people, down from 2, 964,900 a year earlier, according to the numbers, released by the National Statistical Committee. 

The urban population on July 1, 2022 stood at 1,890,200 people, with 1,096,100 people residing in the capital Yerevan. In rural areas the number of population was 1, 071,700 people.

The birth rate in Armenia in the first six months of 2022 slashed by 4.3% compared to the same period of time in 2021, according to the National Statistical Committee.

It said some 16,511 babies were born during the reporting period, down from 17,249 newborns during the first six months of 2021.

However, when, compared to the same period of time in 2020, when 15,798 babies were born, the birth rate in the first 6 months of this year was up 4.5%.

Some 220 cases of stillbirths were recorded in the first 6 months of 2022, which is 7.9% less than in the same period of 2021 and 10.6% more than in the same period of 2020.

Overall, there were 14,679 recorded deaths in January-June 2022, a 10.5% decrease from the same period in 2021 and a 1.2% increase from the first six months of 2020. -0--
