Armenia’s Prosecutor General demands confiscation of real estate in Yerevan, US from former Defence Minister Vigen Sargsyan

Armenia’s Office of Prosecutor General has ordered a confiscation of real estate both in Yerevan and in the United States, as well as money, from Vigen Sargsyan, the former Defence Minister of the country, the authority revealed on Wednesday.

YEREVAN, 22 May. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Office of Prosecutor General has ordered a confiscation of real estate both in Yerevan and in the United States, as well as money, from Vigen Sargsyan, the former Defence Minister of the country, the authority revealed on Wednesday.

Sargsyan is believed to have obtained the following property through illegal means:

  • One piece of real estate in central Yerevan worth 181.1 million drams (roughly $469,000)

  • One piece of real estate in Massachusetts, US, worth 940.9 million drams (roughly $2.5 million)

  • A total of 255.4 million drams (roughly $660,000) of cash

  • A total of 172.5 million drams (roughly $447,000) of unlawful origin that is not available for confiscation as it was transferred to innocent purchasers between 2004 and 2022.

Vigen Sargsyan served as the Defence Minister of Armenia from October 2016 until May 2018 and as the Chief of Presidential Administration under President Serzh Sargsyan from October 2011 to October 2016. He left the office after the 2018 Velvet Revolution.
