Armenia simplifies procedure for obtaining its citizenship
YEREVAN, October 27. /ARKA/. Armenian lawmakers have approved today in the first reading a set of amendments to the law On Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia. The amendments were endorsed by 58 MPs, while 23 parliamentarians abstained from voting.
Deputy Chief of the Police Ara Fidanyan said the amendments extend the deadline for ethnic Armenians and citizens of other republics of the former USSR permanently residing in Armenia to file applications for receiving Armenian citizenship until December 31, 2023.
He said the amendments remove the requirements of the 3 year permanent residence in Armenia and knowledge of the Armenian language.
He also noted that under the proposed changes Armenian citizens receiving passport for the first time can obtain them at Armenian embassies and consular offices operating in all foreign states.
"The proposals also cut the duration of the application processing from 6 months to 90 working days," he said. -0-
