Armenia starting construction of Kotayk-Gegharkunik landfill

Armenia is starting the construction of the Kotayk and Gegharkunik landfill as part of the EBRD-financed solid waste management program, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Vache Terteryan said on Friday during parliamentary hearings on the draft state budget for 2021.
YEREVAN, November 6. /ARKA/. Armenia is starting the construction of the Kotayk and Gegharkunik landfill as part of the EBRD-financed solid waste management program, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Vache Terteryan said on Friday during parliamentary hearings on the draft state budget for 2021.
He said the total cost of the project for 2021 is e 125.6 million drams, of which 104.6 million drams are loan funds and 20.9 million drams are the government's co-financing.
“This is a very long program with a long history, but we finally managed to get closer to its completion, all documents are already in the process of signing, there is a selected developer,” Terteryan said.
He noted that there were certain organizational problems, including due to the fact that an Iranian company was involved in the project, but all issues had already been resolved.
According to him, it is expected that construction work will begin this year, the main stage is planned to be carried out in 2021.
In 2019, 124.4 million drams were spent (54.3% of the projected amount for that year) mainly on consulting services.
The tender for the construction of the landfill was won by an Iranian company Ariana, which will kick off the construction once the coronavirus crisis is over.
The goal of this project is to improve the solid waste collection and management services in the Kotayk and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia, including the construction of a new landfill in Hrazdan. ($1 – 493.87 drams). -0-
