Armenia to host first international SUMMEET contemporary dance festival
YEREVAN, August 13. / ARKA / The first SUMMEET international summer festival of contemporary dance will be held in Yerevan on August 23-29, the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports said today.
It said amateurs and professionals will enjoy master classes, creative meetings, round tables, concert performances by Russian and European companies, events on the open stage and in museum spaces. All this will become another important step towards the recognition of contemporary dance and the confirmation of its role in the cultural life of Armenia.
This year's festival will become a unique platform for dialogue between the Armenian and international professional community, demonstrating the state and development of contemporary dance in Armenia.
The festival will open with Valeria Kasparova's dance performance called Black Garden, dedicated to the first Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war.
Within the framework of the festival, the dance project Dancewalk, which was created by the famous Swiss dance master Fufua d'Imobilite, will be performed for the first time in Armenia.
The core of the festival will be an exhibition featuring the best performances of modern Armenian dance masters. It will also feature the only inclusive dance troupe in Armenia.
Also, dance master Arsen Mehrabyan will offer a five-day laboratory of the Armenian dance. It will bring together dancers from all over the world who will be asked to create stage images.
The closing performance called All Roads Lead to the North will be performed by the famous Russian company Moscow Ballet.
The festival is an initiative of Sarer cultural organization. It will be implemented jointly with the St. Petersburg Kannon Dance company, the Opera Studio of the Yerevan State Conservatory and the Balmanukyan Dance Project Company with the support of the Armenian ministry.
