Armenia to introduce office of health service ombudsperson

Armenia’s ministry of health said today it has created a working group to study the international experience in order to introduce the office of health service ombudsperson, whose main mission will be to provide prompt and free protection of the interests of patients’ of medical institutions.

Armenia’s ministry of health said today it has created a working group to study the international experience in order to introduce the office of health service ombudsperson, whose main mission will be to provide prompt and free protection of the interests of patients’ of medical institutions.
The ministry said the introduction of this office does not mean the elimination of monitoring mechanisms. It said the new system will add to the existing possibilities of prompt and adequate response to complaints of patients in order to minimize discontent of the population.
‘Thus, the new structure will be able to effectively facilitate the rapid and effective resolution of disputes arising between the patients and doctors or medical institutions," the ministry said.
The ministry said also it has worked out the concept of a relating law and submitted it for consideration to interested government agencies. It has also posted it on the www.e-draft.am website. Later it will be submitted to the government for consideration.
The ministry said the approval of this concept will serve as a legal basis for developing a draft law on the activities of the health ombudsperson.
Armenia has now the offices of human rights and financial ombudspersons. The government also discussed the possible introduction of the office of business ombudsperson. -0-
