Armenia will send medicines, medical equipment and food to Lebanon as humanitarian aid, Mane Gevorgyan, the press secretary of the Armenian Prime Minister, said on Facebook.
YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. Armenia will send medicines, medical equipment and food to Lebanon as humanitarian aid, Mane Gevorgyan, the press secretary of the Armenian Prime Minister, said on Facebook.
In her words, the Armenian government, through the Foreign Ministry and the office of the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, is in constant contact with the Lebanese government and leaders of the local Armenian community structures.
"As a result of the discussions, the main directions were specified. The aid on behalf of the Armenian government will be delivered as quickly as possible, by a special flight,' she said.
On August 5 Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation with Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun and expressed his support to the friendly people of Lebanon and its President. He offered deepest condolences to the families of those slain in the devastating explosion at the port of Beirut and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Prime Minister Pashinyan assured of the Armenian authorities’ readiness to provide emergency assistance to friendly Lebanon and its fraternal people.
Michel Aoun thanked Nikol Pashinyan for kind remarks of support and sympathy and expressed his gratitude for the readiness of the Armenian government to provide assistance tailored to the needs of Lebanon. President Aoun advised that Lebanon’s authorities are making every effort to overcome the problems as soon as possible.
According to Armenian Foreign Ministry, as a result of the powerful explosion that took place in Beirut on Tuesday, 11 Armenians were killed and about 100 were injured.
According to the Lebanese authorities, the explosion in the port of Beirut was caused by the detonation of 2.7 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate confiscated by customs services in 2015 and stored in a warehouse.
Mourning has been declared in the country. In the city, recognized as a disaster zone, a state of emergency was introduced for two weeks. According to the latest data, more than 150 people became victims of the explosion, the number of victims exceeded 4 thousand --0--
