Armenia toughens punishment for military service evasion and desertion

An emergency session of Armenia's National Assembly has approved today in the second and final reading a set of amendment to the Criminal Code, which provide for tougher punishments for certain offences committed in wartime.

YEREVAN, October 28. /ARKA/. An emergency session of Armenia's National Assembly has approved today in the second and final reading a set of amendment to the Criminal Code, which provide for tougher punishments for certain offences committed in wartime.
In particular, evasion from compulsory military service, training camps or mobilization in wartime will be punished by a prison term of 6 to 12 years, instead of the previously stipulated 4 to 8 years.
For those who evade their duties or payment of taxes during the wartime, the maximum punishment is from one to five years.
The failure to carry out orders in wartime, the punishment is from 8 to 15 years in prison. Also, desertion committed during martial law, war or in a combat situation is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years instead of the previously established 6 to 12 years.
Since September 27, when Azerbaijani troops launched large-scale offensive against Artsakh with the support of Turkey and Middle East mercenaries, the Armenian forces of Karabakh have killed 6,749 Azerbaijani soldiers having also destroyed 618 battle tanks and armored vehicles, 4 MLRS Smerch and Uragan, 6 TOS-1A MLRS, 223 UAVs, 16 helicopters and 25 aircraft.
According to the official data of the Armenian side, while repelling the enemy's aggression, about 1060 Armenian servicemen were killed, several hundred people were wounded. As a result of Azerbaijani war crimes, 39 civilians were killed and 122 civilians were wounded and 11,600 properties were destroyed and damaged.
Azerbaijan has violated three truce agreements reached with the mediation of Russia, France and USA. -0-
