YEREVAN, 24 May. /ARKA/. A delegation of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilisation and Development (EFSD) discussed with representatives of the Ministry of Health the implementation of socially important grant projects in the country.

The EFSD is financing a project in Armenia to increase the readiness of the health care system to respond to the spread of infectious diseases. A grant totalling $3 million has been allocated for this purpose.

The project involves the reconstruction of the Ararat (Artashat) and Armavir (Vagharshapat) branches of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the construction of a new building for the infectious disease centre in Vanadzor.

The facility in Artashat is scheduled to be commissioned in the summer of 2024, while the facilities in Vagharshapat and Vanadzor are scheduled to be commissioned in 2024-2025.

Among ERDF's projects in Armenia is the financing of a $1 million programme to prevent cancer in women.

On the basis of mobile mammography complex 38 per cent of women aged 50-69 living in remote areas of the country wereexamined, 261 patients receive free treatment. The proportion of breast cancer cases detected at early stages (0-II) is 84.4 per cent. The proportion of cases detected at stages III-IV has halved. More than 85 per cent of health workers involved in primary health care in the four regions have been trained in the prevention and diagnosis of non-communicable diseases.

Mammography studies have shown that the incidence of the disease varies across the country. This data will form the basis for research at the Fanarjian National Centre for Oncology.

The Eurasian Fund for Stabilisation and Development (EFSD) is a regional financial mechanism of more than $9 billion that was established in 2009 by the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan.

The objectives of the EFSD are to promote economic and financial stability in its member countries and to support their sustainable development. -0-
