YEREVAN, December 19. /ARKA/. The Armenian government decided at a meeting on Thursday to increase the compensation amount for some residents of Alaverdi, Lori province, who were affected by the May flooding.

Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan reported that the homes and apartments of some Alaverdi residents became uninhabitable as a result of the disaster and were in a state of emergency. As a result, it was decided to provide residents with funds to purchase new housing. The initial compensation was set at 63,400 drams per square meter.

However, the market conditions showed that it was impossible to purchase housing in Alaverdi at that price. As a result, the government decided to raise the compensation amount to 148,000 drams per square meter.

The emergency situation in Tavush and Lori regions was caused by heavy rainfall on May 25-26, as well as the flooding of the Debed, Aghstev, and Tashir rivers. The natural disaster claimed the lives of four people, and more than 440 people were evacuated. The flood-affected settlements in these two regions have been declared disaster zones ($1 = 394.62 drams).
