Armenian court orders arrest of former head of State Revenue Committee

YEREVAN, August 8: /ARKA/. Vardan Harutyunyan, the former head of the Armenian State Revenue Committee, has been arrested for two months, and his lawyer, Armen Andrikyan, said an appeal will be filed.

"We have not yet received the court decision, only an extract stating that Mr. Harutyunyan will be detained for two months," Andrikyan told reporters on Friday.

He explained that the case concerns the Norfolk company, and the preliminary investigation claims that Harutyunyan was affiliated with it.

"An investigation was actually conducted in connection with this company in 2018, and the allegations were completely refuted. In this regard, Harutyunyan has been charged with abuse of office, involvement in illegal economic activity, and money laundering," Andrikyan noted.

The lawyer said they plan to file an appeal, adding that legally, the process is absurd, the situation is unclear, and the arrest itself is illegal.-0-
