Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) said today its customs officers thwarted an attempt of smuggling 2,030 pieces of diamonds by an Iranian citizen. It said the Iranian tried to use Armenia as a transit country.

YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) said today its customs officers thwarted an attempt of smuggling 2,030 pieces of diamonds by an Iranian citizen. It said the Iranian tried to use Armenia as a transit country.

According to SRC, the diamonds were found in the Iranian's car when he crossed the Armenian border at Agarak border crossing. The diamonds were hidden in a wallet between the seats.

The case was referred to the legal department of the SRC. It said also that this violation of the Customs Code entails a fine in the amount of the customs value of the diamonds. -0-
