Armenian government raises benefits and minimum pensions

Under a decision adopted today by the government of Armenia, the amount of benefits set for poverty, old age, disability and families who lost breadwinner is 25,500 drams.

YEREVAN, November 29. /ARKA/. Under a decision adopted today by the government of Armenia, the amount of benefits set for poverty, old age, disability and families who lost breadwinner is 25,500 drams.
Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Manukyan said the decision comes into force on January 1, 2019 and is aimed at eliminating extreme poverty. He said the measure will require additionally 6.03 billion drams.
By another decision, the government raised the minimum amount of pension to 25,500 drams. This decision also comes into force on January 1, 2019. Currently, 17,000 pensioners receive the minimum pension, which is about 16,000 drams.
According to the ministry's forecasts, by June 1, 2019, there will be 497,394 pensioners in the country. According to the National Statistical Committee, in December 2017, the level of extreme poverty threshold in Armenia stood at 23,313 drams.
The deputy minister also stressed that if the bill is not adopted before January 1, 2019 and enters into force later, the ministry will ensure that it has retroactive force.
