Armenian government revises procedure for school educators certification

YEREVAN, November 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has amended today a procedure developed for voluntary certification of school teachers, which allows them to receive higher salaries.

One of the changes, according to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan is meant to stimulate teachers to raise their qualification. According to the current procedure, if a teacher fails the first certification exam, he/she is given a second chance but if the second chance is also failed the teacher is dismissed.

The amendments propose to give a third chance if progress was recorded during the teacher's preparation for the second certification attempt.

The second change is directly related to bonuses: according to the minister, the main backbone of the teaching staff consists of teachers who have shown average results scoring 60-69% points of the tota, but under the procedure they are not entitled to bonuses.

The amendments propose to introduce a 200 thousand drams bonus for them. According to Andreasyan, this will allow 1,630 teachers to apply for certification.

Under a law adopted by parliament in February 2023, Armenian school educators, who will pass a voluntary exam to acquire a teaching certification will have their salaries raised by 30%, 40% or 50%, depending on the points scored. -0-
