YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/. The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure will kick off soon another major road reconstruction and renovation program, Minister Suren Papikyan said today, adding that soon a string of new tenders will be announced.
He said the 2020 budget calls for major renovation of 244 km long of roads. He added that tenders had been announced already for the repair of 228 km long roads. The results are to be summed up in the next two days.
He also noted that work is underway to prepare tenders for road repairs under the World Bank program and on roads where average repairs are required. At the same time, he noted that due to coronavirus restrictions, some problems emerged with the supply of bitumen from Iran, emphasizing that these procedures should be accelerated in connection with ongoing repairs.
In this regard, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that taking into account the problems with the quality of Iranian bitumen, the current situation creates conditions for the diversification of supplies.
"It is necessary to diversify the market and find better supplies, so that the situation favorably and positively effect the repair of roads," Pashinyan said.
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan stated earlier that by 2023 Armenia will repair 2,500 km of roads. --0--
