YEREVAN, November 7. /ARKA/. Armenian government’s draft budget for 2019 earmarks 5.4 billion drams for raising the salaries of the medical staff working in polyclinics and outpatient’s clinics, acting health minister Arsen Torosyan said today during a discussion on the bill by parliamentary committees.
He said the draft budget calls for raising the average salaries of doctors from 178,000 drams to 240,000 drams. The wages of nurses will rise from 80,000 drams to 120,000 drams and the wages of junior medical staff - from 80,000 drams to 100,000 drams.
He said the proposed rise of salaries pursues two main goals. “Doctors should not expect additional reward for their services from patients and second, I believe that a lot depends on doctors’ satisfaction with their work – I mean their attitude to patients to the process of their treatment,“ said Torosyan.
The draft budget for 2019 approved last month by the government calls for 1.5 trillion drams in revenue and 1.6 trillion drams in spending. It expects capital expenditures to grow to 3% of GDP, up from anticipated 2.8% in 2018.
Tax revenues in 2019 are expected to make 1 trillion and 396 billion drams, which will enable the government to increase its spending to 1 trillion and 614 billion drams. The budget deficit is projected at 2.2% of GDP or about 150 billion drams.
Also 44% of the spending will be allocated to social and cultural sectors, 24% are earmarked for defense, security and public order protection, 12.3% will be provided to the economy, about 10% of the state budget will be used for servicing public debt, 3.2% will be provided as subsidies to communities and 5.8% will be given to state apparatus.
