Armenian government to pay nannies
YEREVAN, November 15. /ARKA/. A set of amendments to the law "On Employment" passed today in the first reading by Armenian parliament, provide for the possibility of showing state support to those young mothers, who would like to hire a nanny to take care of their child less than two years of age.

According to labor and social affairs minister Artem Asatryan,  young mothers who are on parental leave for children under the age of 2, may go back to work and get state support.

"The government is ready to pay 50% of the salary of a nanny, but this amount should not exceed the minimum wage in the country, which is 55,000 drams. In fact, if the salary of a nanny is 110,000 drams, the government will pay 55,000 drams, and the remaining money is to be paid by the parent ", said Asatryan. The minister explained that the deductions of taxes will be made either from the parents or from the nanny. For example, if the salary is 100,000 drams, about 25,000 drams will be deducted as taxes, after which the government will pay 55,000 drams.

He added that a contract must be concluded between a nanny and parents. Otherwise, the government will not pay the promised money. According to the minister, the draft law, if approved and signed into law, will become  a strong  incentive for parents to have more children  and help improve the demographic situation.

"Our goal is not bringing nannies to the tax net this way. Citizens are free to benefit from the law.  If a mother wants to return to work, but there is a problem with caring for the child, then she can participate in the program, "Asatryan said.

According to the minister, some 13,000 mothers are granted leave every year to care for their babies  under the age of 2, but no calculations have been made yet to find out  how many of them will want to return to work. This in mind, the 2018 draft budget has earmarked funds for 200 applicants. He said the amount may be increased if there will  higher demand. ($ 1 - 488.03 drams). -0-
