YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan has reacted to the statements by the leadership of the Bright Armenia opposition party that the Armenian authorities had failed in the fight against coronavirus.

The minister recalled that this particular party, which accuses him of disrupting the “fight against the virus,” was strongly opposed to the extension of the state of emergency, the introduction of an IT system for detecting contact persons and wearing masks. This party also demanded the resumption of transport, which is the most risky area, and of large enterprises with dozens virus carriers. Besides, it called into question the appropriateness of quarantining people in hotels.

"The health care system of Armenia, in spite of you, has done several times more than it was able to curb the spread of infection," Torosyan said.

He said the system, which for decades had been lacking in financing and allocated only 1.4% of GDP and which was not sufficiently developed in material and technical terms, in these days has shown itself in proportion to other, tenfold better financed sectors.

“This was partially achieved thanks to the dedicated medical staff, for which I am deeply grateful to them,” said Torosyan.

Yesterday, Mane Tandilyan, an MP from Bright Armenia opposition party, said that the country's authorities had completely failed to fight the coronavirus. The head of this party, Edmon Marukyan, expressed a similar position to reporters. --0--
