Armenian health minister shrugs off accusations of being a squealer
YEREVAN, March 11. /ARKA/. Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan shrugged off today an anonymous social networking post, allegedly posted by a group of health workers, who accuse him of being a squealer.

Acting on his reports, the law-enforcement bodies have launched criminal proceedings against the heads of a medical center, a boarding house, a former deputy minister, and a number of other representatives of the health sector.

“I don’t keep a record of my official notes sent to the investigating authorities, because the main purpose of my work is not that. I don’t comment on the statements of my colleagues, but I consider it my duty to inform law enforcement agencies about all cases of offenses. If officials do not report offenses, they actually hide crimes," said Torosyan.

He refrained from providing details of the latest case filed against a former deputy minister of health, stressing that the case is being investigated.

On March 7 the law-enforcement authorities detained a former deputy health minister V. Poghosyan on suspicion of being involved in a series of abuses at the National Center for Combating Tuberculosis.

The criminal case was initiated following an audit of  the Tuberculosis Control Center on the grounds of paragraph 17, part 3 of article 179 (embezzlement of property in especially large amounts) and part 1 of article  308 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Investigation revealed numerous incidents of abuses at the Center and also the identity of the people who committed obvious financial abuses. These abuses were committed in 2014-2018. -0-
