Armenian law to protect unregistered employees rights

By a vote of 100 to 6 abstained the Armenian parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the Labor Code, designed to protect the rights of unregistered employees.
YEREVAN, March 12. / ARKA /. By a vote of 100 to 6 abstained the Armenian parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the Labor Code, designed to protect the rights of unregistered employees.
The amendments were co-authored by parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and the chairman of the parliamentary committee on legal affairs David Harutyunyan from the governing Republican Party of Armenia.
According to MP Arpine Hovhannisyan from the ruling party, the changes allow unregistered employees to seek justice at courts in case his/her employer's refusal to sign an employment contract. Employees will be able to apply to the court during or after unregistered employment, but not later than one year.
"Armenia's legislation lacks provisions that give unregistered employees the right to demand unpaid wages. We want to give them this opportunity," Arpine Hovhanissyan said.
According to her, there is a variety of ways to prove that an employee worked unregistered. -0-
