YEREVAN, October 15. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Education and Science is preparing a plan of actions to streamline the operation of scientific and research institutions and to support middle-aged researchers financially, Minister Araik Harutyunyan, told reporters on Monday.
He said a lot of researchers aged 35 – 60 choose to shift to other sectors of economy, including business, because of lack of additional growth opportunities in their research institutions. He said the government should do everything possible to increase the productivity of scientific staff in this age group, ‘however, before drawing up projects, it is necessary to assess their real scientific potential, how optimally it is used and whether there are opportunities for solving social problems. "
According to the minister, the idea behind streamlining the operation of research institutions is to create additional opportunities for funding middle-aged researchers. He said in order to increase the efficiency of work, the possibilities of combining scientific institutions with enterprises are being considered.
"In the next two or three weeks, we will take a final decision and begin discussions on closer cooperation between academies and universities, up to a possible merger," said Harutyunyan. -0-
