YEREVAN, May 15. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament’s committee on state and legal affairs has approved today a government bill to raise the salaries of investigators by 92%.

Arsen Ayvazyan, deputy chairman of Armenia’s Investigative Committee, said investigators examine 90-95% of all the cases pending.

According to him, the workload of investigators is only growing year by year. This, in turn, increases the threat of their outflow and loss of professional staff.

He said because of this there are fewer and fewer applicants to become investigators, while investigators with long work experience, as a rule, prefer to retrain to become lawyers, who are paid better.

The authorities hope that a significant increase in salaries will allow at least partially solve the problem.

Overall, some 975 investigators are expected to have their salaries almost doubled. According to preliminary calculations, this will cost the state budget 3.1 billion drams this year, if the proposal is approved by parliament and enters into force in June 2023. -0-
