Armenian parliament criminalizes calls for genocide

The National Assembly of Armenia approved Thursday at the second, final reading the amendments to the Criminal Code, in accordance with which direct and public calls for genocide are considered a crime.

YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. The National Assembly of Armenia approved Thursday at the second, final reading the amendments to the Criminal Code, in accordance with which direct and public calls for genocide are considered a crime.
Vladimir Karapetyan, a co-author of the bill an MP from the My Step faction, said that such actions provide for severe punishment.
In accordance with the law, direct and public calls for genocide are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 8 to 10 years.
The same act that was committed through the media or a computer network, or by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 10 to 14 years.
The commission of this act by an organized group or with the use of official position is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 14 to 20 years or life. -0-
