Armenian parliament elects new judge of Court of Cassation

After repeated attempts the Armenian parliament has elected today Arsen Mkrtchyan as a new member of the  Court of Cassation. Before the election, he served as chairman of the Civil Court of Appeals.

YEREVAN, March 24. /ARKA/. After repeated attempts the Armenian parliament has elected today Arsen Mkrtchyan as a new member of the Court of Cassation. Before the election, he served as chairman of the Civil Court of Appeals.

According to the law, a judge of the Court of Cassation is elected by 3/5 of the total number of votes of lawmakers by secret ballot.

In the first attempt the parliament was unable to elect a new judge. Before another attempt one of the three candidates, Samvel Grigoryan, pulled out of the race. None of the remaining two candidates won the required number of votes.

Out of 132 lawmakers, 102 took part in the third attempt. Arsen Mkrtchyan received 87 votes -0-
