YEREVAN, February 25. /ARKA/. Patrol Police, a new police unit tasked with road policing, crowd control and street patrol established as part of a major structural reform of the national police service, will start working in Armenia in the summer, Deputy Chief of Police Ara Fidanyan said during a government meeting on Thursday.

The Armenian government approved today the release of 2 billion 161 million drams from the government reserve fund for the purchase of 140 vehicles for the Patrol Police and equipment for its operational control center. It will also release another 32 million 445 thousand drams for the reconstruction of the center.

“It was planned that all preparatory work and purchases would be completed by March 31, however, due to various reasons, including the coronavirus crisis and the war in Artsakh the launch was postponed to June 1,” Fidanyan said.

For his part, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Patrol Police will be launched first in Yerevan and extended later to Shirak and Lori and then to all regions of the country. --0--
