Armenian SRC foils attempt to smuggle large consignment of diamonds
YEREVAN, 12 September. /ARKA/. Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) said today that its employees foiled an attempt to smuggle a consignment of diamonds into Armenia.
According to the Committee, an Armenian citizen arriving on the Sharjah-Yerevan flight was searched and his luggage was subjected to customs inspection. As a result, a diamond and a ‘GIA’ certificate were found in his passport pouch. Seventeen diamonds were also found in a packet of cigarettes.
Ninety-four diamond certificates with various entries were found in this citizen's suitcase. Also 3 polythene bags with diamonds were found in the suitcase and 91 diamonds of different sizes were found in the waistband of his trousers.
Thus, the citizen concealed from customs control 109 diamonds of different sizes, as well as 3 bags with small stones similar to diamonds, with a total weight of 69 grams. -0-
