Armenian university official detained on bribery charges

Armenia’s National Security Service officers have detained yesterday Mkrtich Ghukasyan, an official of the state-owned Abovyan Pedagogical University in charge of correspondence learning enrollment on charges of bribery.

YEREVAN, September 26. / ARKA /. Armenia’s National Security Service officers have detained yesterday Mkrtich Ghukasyan, an official of the state-owned Abovyan Pedagogical University in charge of correspondence learning enrollment on charges of bribery.
Ghukasyan was detained when receiving the bribe, the National Security Service said in a statement today.
"Ghukasyan demanded and received $1,700 from a Yerevan resident Ts. Hovannisyan for helping her to get enrolled in the university’s correspondence learning department,’ the statement said.
The National Security Service said it has initiated a criminal case on paragraph 2, part 2 of article 311/1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. -0-
