Bank cards will be issued free for Karabakh refugees to receive financial aid in Armenia - Pashinyan

YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. To receive financial support in Armenia, refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh will need to open a bank account, tied to a bank card, so that we provide them with money to meet their basic needs, PM Nikol Pashinyan said today.
He said getting a bank card may take some time, but the Central Bank has already agreed with local commercial banks that they open these accounts free of charge and as soon as possible so that the government transfer 100 thousand drams to each of the refugee regardless of age as a one-time support.
"We know that many people do not have documents. In such cases, it is necessary to get a corresponding certificate from the Unified Social Service. The funds intended for the children will be transferred to the mothers' cards," Pashinyan said.
The government will also pay 40 thousand drams to each refugee to pay apartment rent and 10 thousand drams to pay utility bills.
"We are taking measures to provide with jobs school teachers, medics. It is very important that the ministries actively disseminate information about the available vacancies," Prime Minister noted.
Regarding the large number of pensioners from Karabakh Pashinyan said the good news is that most of them have bank cards.
'Financially, our approach is to pay their pensions in the Republic of Armenia. However, there is a purely legal issue depending on their status as displaced persons and refugees. Our approach is that we will transfer the money and solve all problems related to this as soon as possible," Pashinyan said.
On September 19, Azerbaijan launched what it called an "anti-terrorist" operation against ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh.
The assault lasted 24 hours and ended with Azerbaijani forces gaining full control of the region for the first time since the 1990s war.
Well over 100,000 ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh – almost the entire estimated population of the territory - have poured into Armenia fearing Azerbaijan's prosecution and persecution.-0-
