Damage to Armenia's environment in 2023 amounted to over AMD 4.88 bln - regulator

YEREVAN, January 10. /ARKA/. About 4.9 billion drams worth damage was sustained to Armenia’s environment in 2023, Head of Nature and Subsoil Protection Inspection Body Hovhannes Martirosyan said on Wednesday.
According to him, 155 scheduled and 137 unscheduled inspections were conducted last year in mining, water use, construction and forestry sectors.
"Based on the violations revealed as a result of the detailed inspections it was possible to restore 150 million drams of the damage,’ he said adding that several criminal cases were also initiated against violators.
According to his data, 2,483 violations of environmental norms were recorded during 2023, which is about 100 cases more than in 2022.
He said 46 decisions were made to suspend the operations s of business entities for violation of environmental norms. --0--
