The burst of machine-gun fire in the downtown Yerevan today at about 1.20 pm caused a commotion.

YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA/. The burst of machine-gun fire in the downtown Yerevan today at about 1.20 pm caused a commotion. Soon after it emerged that one man was shot and killed and another one was heavily wounded. The incident occurred near the government building, close to Vernissage open-air market full of people at any time of the day. The site of the crime was instantly filled with people who ran out of nearby offices and a bank.
According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, the attackers dropped their guns on the ground and ran away from the scene. Later the police identified the killed man as G. Mosinyan., a resident of Alaverdi, Lori region, born in 1974. The wounded person, identified as V. Abgaryan, was rushed to hospital.
The question, which worries everyone now, is why? Officials have declined comments, but reports in some local mass media outlets suggest it might be a vendetta.
