Drinking water losses in Armenia reach 63% - Minister

YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. The amount of distributed drinking water that does not reach customers in Armenia is now 63%, Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Gnel Sanosyan said on Wednesday.

"This is an appallingly high figure. However, in 2018, this figure was 73%. The difference in figures shows that despite the reduction of losses, there is really something to work on in this area. Another thing is that we would like to reduce these losses at a faster pace," Sanosyan said at the session of the National Assembly Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

According to him, the same applies to the irrigation system, where, water losses are 44-45%, compared to 46% in 2018.

The minister noted, a rather difficult and complicated situation has developed in Armenia's water sector.

"On the one hand, the authorities are facing infrastructure problems, which is, to put it mildly, not in the best condition. On the other hand, there is the impact of climatic processes, and there are problems with water sources. This applies to drinking water, irrigation water and water stored in reservoirs. The year 2023 was quite difficult in this respect," the minister said.-0-
