Environment inspection agency’s powers expanded in Armenia

The Inspection Agency for Nature Protection and Subsoil Resources of Armenia was given the opportunity to suspend the activities of enterprises. Relevant amendments to the law on environmental control were passed Tuesday by the Armenian National Assembly at the second, final reading.
YEREVAN, October 6. /ARKA/. The Inspection Agency for Nature Protection and Subsoil Resources of Armenia was given the opportunity to suspend the activities of enterprises. Relevant amendments to the law on environmental control were passed Tuesday by the Armenian National Assembly at the second, final reading.
Under the existing legal norms, if during the inspection there were the necessity of immediate suspension of an economic entity’s activities on the spot, then the inspection bodies could not do this.
Amendments empower the inspection agency to suspend the activities of economic entities even if the latter have applied to the court with a demand to lift the restriction. In this case, the ban on activities will remain in force until the court makes the appropriate decision on the appeal.
As for the cancellation of the ban on activity, it can be voided only by a court decision or by a resolution of the head of the inspection agency. -0-
